Ladang Bahagia Award 2011
On the 07th of May 2011, Sabah Softwoods Berhad (SSB) once again created a new milestone by winning the Ladang Bahagia Awards
2011 in conjunction with Malaysia Labour Day 2011 celebrations at the Bukit Jalil Sports Complex. This is the second consecutive winning
which the first was awarded in 2009 to our oil palm plantation, Cenderamata Estate. This time our Brumas Timber Plantation bagged the award.
The award was presented by Malaysia Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and was received by our Chief Operating Officer(COO),
Frank Salazar accompanied by General Manager(GM) Timber Operations Joly Poyong. The award was judge based on the company's effort at
improving the basic facilities of its estate workers. In fact, Brumas Timber Plantation estate workers are provided with pre-school and
school, clinic, mosque, chapel, hall, mini-stadium, golf course, and football field. Nevertheless, this is part of SSB culture to provide
the best to its employees.
In an interview with Bernama recently, COO Frank Salazar stated that since 2002, SSB had spent about RM65 million to improve the housing, education and social facilities of its workers at the company's 11 estates. SSB estimated that another RM40 million would be spent in the next five years to complete ongoing facility improvement projects in the estates. Currently, Brumas Timber Plantation houses capacitate about 400 workers. About 30 percent of the workers are local while the rest are foreigners. As part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Eight physically-disadvantaged(OKU) people are also hired in various capacities, especially in nurseries. This year's Labour Day Celebration draw audiences of nearly 12,000 people and the official theme is "Workers To Realise The Country's Transformation". SSB's with delegation of 70 representatives comprises of various departments including our Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Kunna Segar, GM Oil Palm Plantation Ibrahim Moin and GM Marketing & Trade Dominic Dambul also participated in this joyous occassion. Throughout the day, audiences were entertained by dance and singing performances by invited artists. Meanwhile, after the event ended, participants didn't waste the opportunity exploring and shops in Malaysia's busies Metropolitan - Kuala Lumpur. Participants visited popular venues such as Bukit Bintang, KLCC, Beryl's Chocolate Factory and Putrajaya. It definitely being a memorable and great experience for all participants which indirectly draws a closer relationship within colleagues. "1 Malaysia, 1 SSB" |
